Moving ForwardFebruary 13, 2008 There is much to be happy about here in Laguna Niguel, and we continue to have you, the wonderful citizens of our city to thank for it.
Our city continues to be one of the safest and most enjoyable places to live, in one of the most beautiful areas in the world.
Every time I ride down to the beach on our beautiful trails I am amazed by how blessed we are to live here.
Thanks to a thriving business community, we also have a strong local economy that provides our residents with
the products and services they want and need. As I begin this year as your Mayor Pro Tem, I'm looking forward to making sure the city continues to provide
excellent services to its residents, and to make sure we keep regulation to a minimum and use your tax dollars
wisely. Many of you know how I have fought for more street repaving and I am thrilled with the
program we now have in place that will see every street in Laguna Niguel get the attention it needs within the next
few years. Spending money on streets is not glamorous, but it is the right thing to do, and we on your city
council are doing it. It is also important to mention our recently adopted Sister City in Iraq. Many of our residents have wondered
why we would do such a thing, so I think it is important to explain. The overwhelming majority
of our residents wish they could do more to support the young men and women in our armed services. The tremendous support we have received for the Laguna Niguel Military Support Committee is
evidence of that. So, when Lt.Col. Jason Bohm, former commanding officer of one of
our adopted units, suggested that we could help him accomplish his
mission and bring our Marines home safely by making Al Qaim our Sister City, we embraced the challenge. Sister Cities International was originally established after WWII to help cities rebuild
and integrate into society after the war, and that is exactly what we are doing today. By opening lines of
communication and sharing learning whenever possible with our Sister City of Al Qaim, we hope to help them
rebuild their lives and bring our troops home safely and quickly. Thanks to the
groundwork laid by Lt.Col. Bohm, the tremendous efforts of community members and my fellow
council members, we were able to complete the process and are looking forward to ways we can work together in
the future. We are not sending them money, just offering friendship, experience, and helping to direct
humanitarian assistance their way whenever possible. It is through building mutual trust
that the battalion had such a successful deployment and we hope to continue building that trust into the
future. I look forward to continuing to preserve and protect our beautiful city, and enhancing it whenever possible.
Thank you all for your continuing support! Very truly yours, |
